TOP FAMILY TRAVEL PLANNING TIPS
- The first step is figuring out where you want to go
- Once you have a destination in mind, start reading blogs and guidebooks to get an idea of what you want to do at your destination
- It helps to use Pinterest to save articles about potential destinations
- Once you know what you want to do, use Google Maps to map them out to figure out what you want to do when
- On Google Maps make sure to Star/Save the places that you want to go (restaurants, museums, etc) for easy reference later
- Be sure to go back and read about each attraction so you know what days they are open, hours, prices and any other tips
- Use TripAdvisor, Yelp, OpenTable and Google Maps (Nearby) to find local restaurants
- Booking reservations for dinners beforehand can make your tip a little easier on the whole family.
- Make packing lists and use check lists so you don’t forget those last minute tasks before you leave such as:
- taking out the trash
- pet care
- mail/newspaper
- food that will go bad while gone

3 weeks on the west coast in June. Our family can’t wait!
I loved this episode and concurred with a lot of you said. I am done with planning for our spring break trip and I use a lot of the techniques you mentioned. We are taking a 9 day road trip through a bit of Arizona and Utah in March. Our focus is the national parks. The trip starts and end in phoenix. We live in the Bay Area, CA. We will fly into and out of phoenix from Oakland, rent a car and start the adventure 🙂
That sounds so fun! We are glad to meet fellow planners.
My family of 4 and 2 other families from Richmond, VA will be staying at the Westin in Guanacaste, Costa Rica for spring break in April. Since all of us moms attending the trip are type A’s, your Wanderlist book will come in handy. Hope I win!
How fun! I went to Guanacaste a few years ago and had a great time. — Tamara

I just ordered the book! We are trying to plan our first European vacation for next year & I think this will be a great tool & keepsake.
